It is a strategic pass on the Silk Road west of the Guanzhong region, connecting to the Liupan Mountains in the west, overlooking the Guanzhong Plain in the east, adjacent to the Guanshan Mountains in the south, and facing the Xiaoguan Pass in the north. The Jing River and the Yanzi River surround it from north and south, converging in front of the main peak Wangjia Mountain. The altitude ranges from 1456 to 2123.5 meters, with a vertical height of 667.5 meters, and the main peak is 2123 meters high. The forest coverage rate is over 95%, with a total area of 83.6 square kilometers. Legend has it that the Yellow Emperor, revered as the ancestor of Chinese culture, once visited Kongtong Mountain to seek advice from the wise Guangchengzi on governance and health preservation. Emperors such as Qin Shi Huang and Han Wu Di also visited out of admiration. Literary figures such as Sima Qian, Du Fu, Bai Juyi, Zhao Shichun, Lin Zexu, and Tan Sitong have all praised it in their writings. Kongtong Martial Arts is regarded as one of the five major martial arts schools in China.

Introduction

Beishiku Temple, located at the confluence of the Ru River and Pu River under the Fuzhong Mountain in Qingyang County, Gansu Province, was initiated by Jingzhou Prefect Xi Kangsheng in the second year of the Yongping period of the Northern Wei Dynasty (509 AD). Since its inception in the Northern Wei Dynasty, Beishiku Temple has been expanded in the Western Wei, Northern Zhou, Sui, Tang, Song, and Qing Dynasties, forming a dense cluster of caves and niches. Beishiku Temple is one of the four major grottoes in Gansu, and together with the South Shiku Temple located 15 li east of Jingchuan County, both were created by Jingzhou Prefect Xi Kangsheng of the Northern Wei Dynasty. It is the sister grotto of the South Shiku Temple in Jingchuan and an important grotto on the northern Silk Road. Beishiku Temple has 295 caves and niches carved on a 120-meter-long and 20-meter-high red sandstone cliff, with a total of 2,125 statues.

The first floor has 24 corridor columns, and all three floors have overhanging eaves on the front, with 102 painted brackets under the eaves. Introduction

Du Shaoling Shrine, also known as Du Gong Shrine or Du Fu Thatched Cottage, is a memorial hall-style building dedicated to the great Tang Dynasty poet Du Fu. Introduction

Bingling Temple Grottoes, located on the west side cliff of Dasi Gully in Jishishan, Yongjing County, Linxia Hui Autonomous Prefecture, Gansu Province, is a World Cultural Heritage site managed by the Dunhuang Academy. The grottoes were first excavated in the early Western Jin Dynasty (around the 3rd century) and officially established in the first year of Jianhong of the Western Qin Dynasty (420 AD), originally known as Tangshu Cave. They were called Longxing Temple during the Tang Dynasty, Lingyan Temple during the Song Dynasty, and Bingling Temple after the Yongle period of the Ming Dynasty. In June 2014, the Bingling Temple Grottoes were successfully inscribed on the World Heritage List. The grottoes are arranged in four tiers, containing 183 niches, with a total of 694 stone statues, 82 clay sculptures, and approximately 900 square meters of murals, distributed along a 200-meter-long, 60-meter-high cliff face on the west bank of Dasi Gully. The grottoes are characterized by the "Natural Great Buddha" (Cave 171) of the Tang Dynasty located at a high cliff and numerous medium and small niches in the middle section of the cliff face.

Introduction

Bulong Temple, located in Xiahe County, Gannan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Gansu Province, is fully named in Tibetan as: 'Gadain Xiazhu Darje Tashi Yisu Qiju Lang', which means the Lhakhang of Joyful Teaching and Auspicious Right-turning Temple. It is commonly known as Lhabrang Temple. Lhabrang Temple is a variation of the Tibetan word 'Lhabrang', meaning the residence of the Living Buddha. It is one of the six major temples of the Gelugpa sect of Tibetan Buddhism, covering a total area of 866,000 square meters, with a construction area of over 400,000 square meters. It was opened to tourists in 1980. Lhabrang Temple was founded in 1709 under the guidance of the First Jamyang Shepai Dorje, and has been continuously expanded and perfected by successive Jamyang and other major Living Buddhas, becoming a sacred religious retreat, a comprehensive academic institution for disseminating knowledge, and the cultural and artistic center of the entire Amdo region of the Tibetan nationality, earning the title of the Second Tibet. At its peak, it housed over 4,000 monks. Lhabrang Temple has built six main prayer halls and 48 small temples, classified by their uses into prayer halls, temples, monastic residences, monk quarters, and other categories, with architectural features divided into stone-wood and earth-wood types, with stone exteriors and wooden interiors. Historically, it was said to have 108 affiliated temples (actually far more), serving as the political and religious center of Gannan. Lhabrang Temple retains the best teaching system of Tibetan Buddhism in China. The oldest and the only temple built during the time of the First Jamyang Living Buddha is the temple of the Lower Tantric College, located next to the Great Sutra Hall.

Subsequent construction continued through the Northern Dynasties, Sui and Tang Dynasties, Western Xia, and the Ming and Qing Dynasties, with a history of over 1600 years. Tiantishan Grottoes is one of the earliest grottoes excavated in China, representing the early Chinese grotto art, and is considered the origin of the Yungang Grottoes and Longmen Grottoes. It holds an important position in the history of Chinese Buddhism and is known as the 'Cradle of Grottoes' in academic circles.
